We have heard many words/terms used to describe Chihuahuas over the years.
Some of these words/terms have been misused for so long it has made
it difficult for some to determine just what is correct.
Words like Tea-cup, Pocket Size, Tiny Toy, Miniature or Standard, Deer Type,
Apple Head- are a few incorrect terms that come to mind. These words/terms
are misleading and incorrect and are used many times to dupe the unsuspecting
public soley for monetary gain.
The official
A.K.C. Chihuahua
Breed Standard describes the Chihuahua as a small dog that comes
in two varieties or coat types (Long Coat or Smooth Coat). The difference
in coat type is the only description that should be used to describe a difference
in this breed.
Chihuahuas are in the Toy Group (along with 19 other breeds) and considered
to be a toy breed of dog.
A Chihuahua is a Chihuahua is a Chihuahua....it can be short or tall, fat
or thin. Regardless of it's size or structure it is STILL simply a
Chihuahua. Just as you are considered a human, male or female.
The only time we concern ourselves with size here in our kennel, is when
we are making a choice in what we want to show or breed. Some Chihuahuas,
in our opinion, are to small to breed and others may be to big to show as
per the Standard Disqualification...not to exceed 6 pounds.
A CHIHUAHUA by any other name is still a CHIHUAHUA.
